ARTIST STATEMENT

"One of my favorite things about Lupin III is how every artist brings something different to the table! Each piece is wildly distinct, from MP's original manga to the varied styles and tones of the movies, all the way to the janky PS2 models, and yet it never feels like any part of the story takes away from the rest; it just constantly builds and builds into something everyone gets to be a part of. Just like a zine! Lupin has been a comfort and joy in my life for the better part of a decade now (which feels crazy to type out) and yet it still feels as fresh and fun as ever because of this. Anyone and everyone can contribute to Lupin's world. It's encouraged!

And uh my contribution to that story is a sticker of Jigen freaking at the dentist's office. I LOVE LUPIN III!!!"

"I'm pretty new to the Lupin the Third series, but ever since I've fallen down the rabbit hole it has become one of my favorite comfort shows. These characters and their dynamics are so charming to me, and it's fascinating how much media can be traced back to this series' influence. For my part, I wanted to make stickers that I felt showed off the gang's personalities, and also made me laugh. My contribution to this zine is pretty silly, which fits for a very silly franchise! I'm so so grateful to have had the opportunity to display my goofy stickers alongside such amazingly talented people's works, and that this got to be my first ever zine."

ARTIST STATEMENT

"I mainly jumped around with my profile pieces quite often. My main idea was that the Lupin gang had a floral theme going on. I didn't research much about what flowers meant what, but I wanted to make sure each character had their own flower colors without repeating it as possible. Some elements such as the flags and cup of noodles felt obligatory to include.

I wanted to capture the whimsy, elegance, and determination of each character's profile. To me, Lupin III typically comes packed with humor, thrills, and trickery. Overall, there is beauty that comes from the main cast. I also overcame some struggles during the making of these pieces, such as the hats that Zenigata & Jigen wear as well as the pose I thought of for Fujiko (I ended up making my own pose with the hand). This was definitely fun and personally challenged me to experiment on certain aspects!"

ARTIST STATEMENT

"I did have a piece I was making, but unfortunately I couldn't finish it due to the workload. Still got to contribute myself through the FujiGoe Shimejis though.

My statement can be attributed to my Lupin work in general tbh. Lupin carried me through my transition into being an adult and felt like a creative playground for exploring more mature subjects in a comical and free kind of way.

That's what it all comes back to for me, is Freedom. I don't think Lupin will ever stop inspiring me for all the freedom it's allowed the creatives who've carved the chapters of the characters legacies that began half a century ago and carried them all the way into our present to still have stories to be told.

As someone who deeply loves animation and visual storytelling in general, and just all the out of this world feats the mediums can do, Lupin being a way to look at the evolution of comics, tv and movies is so so fascinating. I'm so grateful to have gone on the journey of exploring the franchise for a year because I feel like I learned so much (even through all the bad or mediocre) about what our modern storytelling conventions can be pushed to achieve, creating things beyond what these characters initially were or where it can fall flat and feel hollow.

The Woman called Fujiko Mine like genuinely changed my life and has it's influences in everything I want to do artistically going forward. Lupin has and always will be there as the source of someone's inspiration, because it's definitely one of mine now and that's what I hope to be celebrating with making this zine!"
