A DIGITAL LUPIN III FANZINE

In this piece's composition, I placed Lupin in the bottom left corner and pulling everyone's attention to him. The line of sight travels from the bottom-right to upper-right. The scene is lit by bright yellow light from a single lamp hanging overhead. On the top of the desk, a smaller-scale tussle is playing out with the closest members of the gang. Lupin swipes Goemon and Jigen's tools of the trade -- the Magnum and the Zantetsuken -- out of their hands with a few cleverly placed threads and a grin. This section's color palette is inspired by the green and yellow color scheme of Lupin's jacket from Part 1 and Fujiko's series. Over the desk, Fujiko and Zenigata looks down at the unfolding situation. The color palette for both of them is based on the red jacket's color scheme. While they are key members of the cast, they also play on opposite sides from Lupin. Fujiko's propensity for betrayal and eye for the loot is well-documented throughout the series. So, she looms over them while holding Lupin's Walther and the goods, a wink in her eye and a confident smirk across her face. After all, Fujiko's often the one who comes out on top at the end of the heist, sometimes at Lupin's expense. Across from her is Zenigata, with bewilderment on his face. Scattered underneath his hands are documents related to the Lupin case, like his dossier and calling cards, as well as a pair of handcuffs that Lupin is dancing on. Eventually, Zenigata'll be the one to try and unravel Lupin's plans, but he'll have to work to figure this one out!

ARTIST STATEMENT

"When I first proposed my idea to the zine, I thought a lot about how antagonistic the main cast are to each other throughout the series. Sometimes, their motivations align and they all work together. But I find it interesting to see how each character move when they have their desires at heart.

At the center of it all is Lupin. He's often instigating conflict with his whims and antics. Even though it's in the name of fun and satisfaction, he's definitely rankling some nerves -- though, his partners and rivals do eventually forgive him to an extent. I wanted to portray how Goemon, Jigen, Fujiko, and Zenigata react to this for my zine piece. "
