ARTIST STATEMENT

"The Lupin gang drive each other crazy. Fujiko betrays Lupin, his non-stop lust for her frustrate both Jigen and Goemon, Zenigata throws any & all caution or life outside of Lupin to the wind, and that's only a small handful of the dysfunctionality this group will find themselves in every day. Sometimes their bickering escalates, sometimes they split off... and yet when all is said and done, despite their fights, empty promises that right-hand-to-god they're gone for good, everyone will end up together in one place again.

Maybe running off into the sunset, maybe sharing some drinks and laughing about it all a la Part 5 credits. In my brainstorming & seeking inspiration for the story I wanted to tell of the franchise & the gang's dynamics (a constant, ever-repeating tale of dysfunctionality creating a sense of functionality between the gang), The Mystery of Mamo stood out to me. To me, it's when Lupin and his gang are at their most dysfunctional, but by the end of the film are on the same island, unable to stay apart for long. It's like they can't live without that crazy. My piece shows what I like to think is where the gang ended up after the fact: battered, tattered, sharing drinks and laughing together 'til sundown.

I'm pretty normal about these guys trust"
